SPOKANE, Wash. – The Spokane Regional Health Department (SRHD) has released a new interactive respiratory illness dashboard providing insight into COVID-19, influenza and respiratory syncytial virus trends and their impacts in Spokane County.
The new dashboard includes the following data:
Emergency department visits with diagnosed respiratory illnesses Hospitalizations for COVID-19 and influenza Outbreaks in long-term care COVID-19 and influenza mortality Viral concentrations in wastewater
This dashboard expands on previous COVID-19 dashboards by adding influenza and respiratory syncytial virus data. Data for the dashboard comes from the Electronic Surveillance System for Community-Based Early Notification of Communicable Diseases, the Washington State Disease Reporting System, the Washington State Department of Health, and sample monitoring at local water reclamation plants. The dashboard can help promote awareness of respiratory disease activity, indicate the start of respiratory disease season, and support infection control policy decision-making.
“The Respiratory Disease Dashboard allows SRHD to share information directly with the community,” said Mark Springer, infectious disease surveillance and prevention manager. “Seeing disease trends and virus levels in wastewater helps organizations and people in the community make informed policies and decisions that ultimately save lives.”
