Virtual maternity care platform Pomelo Care announced it has secured $46 million in Series B funding.
Existing investors Andreessen Horowitz (a16z) and First Round Capital led the round.
Stripes, Operator Partners, SV Angel and BoxGroup also participated in the round, along with angel investors Adam Boehler and Puneet Singh.
The New York-based company partners with employers, health plans and healthcare providers to offer virtual fertility, pregnancy and newborn care from pre-conception through a baby’s first year. Services offered include nutrition counseling, educational content, primary and women’s care, and 24/7 access to care team members via phone, text and video.
“We’ve long known what works to reduce maternal and infant complications, but these interventions have historically been difficult to implement within traditional health systems,” Pomelo Care founder and CEO Marta Bralick Kearns told MobiHealthNews in an email. “At ACOG, we presented data showing that our model of care is impacting the root causes of this maternal and infant health crisis. With this funding, we will expand this model of care to private and Medicaid plans to improve outcomes for patients across the country.”
Marigold Health, which offers AI-assisted peer support chat for people with substance abuse disorders and other mental health issues, has closed an $11 million Series A funding round led by Rock Health and Innospark Ventures.
Commonwealth Care Alliance, KdT Ventures, Epsilon Health Investors, VNS Health Plan, Stand Together Ventures Lab, Koa Labs and Wavemaker360 also participated in the round.
The company offers an anonymous peer support program for individuals with substance use disorders and other mental illnesses that includes 24/7 access to text-based support groups and one-on-one coaching from certified specialists.
The funding will expand the company’s reach, partnerships and peer workforce.
“Historically, most investments in SUD care have been focused on the small number of people who are already in treatment and ready to seek treatment,” Shrenik Jain, founder and CEO of Marigold Health, said in a statement.
“Typically, this form of treatment is not very effective. Peer support is an unspoken reality for most people to ultimately recover. We create a safe space where our members can empower each other and make the best out of a broken system.”
