EXCLUSIVE: Greenwich Entertainment has acquired U.S. rights to Happy Clothes: A Film About Patricia Field , Michael Selditch’s award-winning documentary about the famed costume designer of the same name.
Following its world premiere at the 2023 TriBeCa Film Festival, the film will open at New York’s IFC Center on September 20, with Selditch, Field and surprise guests on hand for Q&As after select screenings. Release plans for other major markets and home entertainment will be announced at a later date.
Happy Clothes offers a candid and direct glimpse into the creative process and extraordinary life and career of retailer, stylist and costume designer Patricia Field, whose unique vision has influenced fashion and pop culture for almost six decades. A two-time Emmy Award-winning costume designer, Field is best known for her work on Sex and the City. Her resume also includes nearly 30 TV shows, including Ugly Betty, Emily Goes to Paris and Run the World, as well as more than a dozen films, including the Academy Award-nominated The Devil Wears Prada.
The documentary features never-before-seen archival footage and interviews with collaborators Kim Cattrall, Lily Collins, Sarah Jessica Parker, Darren Star, Michael Urie and Vanessa Williams.
“As a retailer and designer, Patricia Field is a bit like the Coco Chanel of downtown New York. She was already legendary before she inspired and catered to the needs of half a world across several eras, injecting her own unique style into the zeitgeist of past decades,” said Edward Arendts, co-president of Greenwich. “Michael delivers a fascinating profile that captures her work, her world, her sensibility and her generous spirit, lifting the veil off how the costumes for some of the world’s most popular shows and movies of the past decade were made.”
“My producers and I are thrilled to work with Ed and his team at Greenwich Entertainment to bring this iconic story of visionary and indomitable creativity to a wide audience,” said Selditch.
Donald Zuckerman, Samuel J. Paul and Cerditch produced the documentary, with Lidia Tenaglia, Christopher Collins and Eugen Braunig serving as co-producers. Luisa Law, Tricia Weber-Jussi, Ryan Price and Lori Zuckerman served as producers, and Andrew Hurwitz’s The Film Sales Company handled international sales.
Mr. Arendts of Greenwich represented the filmmakers in negotiating the acquisition with Mr. Hurwitz.
