Though only a small excerpt, Jennie’s new solo music teaser seems to hint at a bold break from the past with powerful verses expressing her thoughts. Fans speculate that this could be a diss to her former label YG Entertainment, whom she left in December 2023 to pursue a solo career under her own label, ODD ATELIER. Jennie also shared the video on her recently launched TikTok account.
The lyrics in question are: “Took for granted, held hostage, burdened, carrying the past, lucky for the future. They didn’t plan it. For women to be womanly. They didn’t want it, but we came out of history like shit. They didn’t want it, but we came out of history like righteous.”
After hearing the lyrics, fans were in awe of the solo singer and expressed their love for her, with one fan writing, “She was born to achieve great things,” while another wrote, “That’s exactly what Jennie is saying.”
What is Jenny up to now?
Kim Jennie is a South Korean pop singer and a member of the girl group BLACKPINK. She became a YG trainee in 2010 after studying in New Zealand. Jennie debuted with BLACKPINK in 2016 and made her solo debut on November 12, 2018 with the song “SOLO”.
All members of BLACKPINK, including Jennie, have decided not to renew their individual contracts with YG Entertainment. Jennie had already launched her own label, ODD ATELIER (OA), in November 2023. OA’s introduction stated, “We aim to create something new that will grab attention in a way that is different from the usual or expected.” Known for leading campaigns for top luxury brands and earning the nickname “human Chanel” from fans, Jennie recently debuted as a runway model for Jacquemus.
