At first, her daughter thought it was ketchup on the burger, she said in a viral TikTok. Burger King announced it would temporarily close its New York locations to allow for deep cleaning and retraining of staff.
Burger King has temporarily closed a New York restaurant for a deep clean after a TikTok video that appeared to show a bloody meal went viral.
Tiffany Floyd went to a Burger King in the Buffalo suburb of Getzville on Friday to buy a meal for her 4-year-old daughter, according to comments made in a video and in an interview with the New York Post.
“I heard, ‘Mom! I don’t want ketchup,’ so I gave the bag back thinking maybe she got the order wrong. I looked in her bag and there was blood on everything – the bag, her toy, the fries,” Floyd said in the video, which has received nearly 1 million likes. Blood can be seen splattered on the burger wrapper in the video, and blood can be seen on the burger itself in photos published in the Washington Post article.
“So I immediately told her to spit her food out,” Floyd told The Washington Post. “She ate some fries and some burger, and then I looked at my food and there was blood on mine too.”
A Burger King spokesperson told Business Insider that the company was “deeply disturbed and concerned by this incident” and had been in contact with Mr Floyd.
“This incident occurred when a restaurant employee injured his finger and left the scene immediately upon realising it,” the spokesman said.
Burger King closed the restaurant to retrain staff and hired an outside company to do a deep cleaning, a spokesperson said. Restaurant employees told BI the restaurant reopened for business on Monday.
A spokesman said staff would be paid for shifts lost during the closure.
Floyd said he plans to have his daughter’s blood tested every month for up to a year to see if she has any illnesses.
“My daughter is obviously traumatized by this,” Floyd added. “She’s basically refusing to eat.” Floyd said his daughter refused to eat her cereal because she thought there was blood in it.
With the rise of social media, incidents like Floyd’s can go viral quickly and easily, and some people have taken to platforms like TikTok and X to pressure companies to compensate them for poor customer service or incorrect orders.
