BLACKPINK’s Jennie can’t take it anymore! Solo rapper Jennie has finally decided that it’s time to speak out against her former label YG Entertainment and call out the haters.
Blackpink’s Jennie criticizes YG Entertainment and its haters
On June 20, Jennie surprised fans by performing a snippet of her unnamed song in an advertisement for Beats Solo Buds. Though the song’s lyrics initially seemed like any other powerful song, fans quickly noticed that the Blackpink star was criticizing her old label, YG Entertainment, and haters in the new segment.
“Took for granted, held hostage, shouldering our baggage, carrying our past, fortunately the future was made, womanhood was never planned,” the lyrics continue.
For those unfamiliar, Jennie often speaks about her love for songwriting. However, YG Entertainment has allegedly not allowed her to write songs or credited her for writing lyrics for BLACKPINK’s hit songs. Additionally, BLACKPINK has not released music frequently throughout their seven-year long career, despite the members’ wishes.
In terms of work:
On December 24 last year, just days before YG Entertainment announced that all four members of BLACKPINK had decided not to renew their individual contracts with the label, Jennie announced the launch of her own agency, OA (ODD ATELIER). Following her departure, rapper Jennie released “Slow Motion” with Matt Champion and “SPOT” with Zico.
A few weeks ago, it was reported that Jennie would be making her first solo comeback with an album in June. However, just hours after the news broke, a representative for Jennie’s solo label said, “We are planning to produce new music, but no release date or whether it will be a single or EP has been discussed yet.”
